ELDORA - Betty A. Donner, 69, of Eldora died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Oct. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora with Father James Dubert officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation is Sunday, Oct. 12, from 5-8 p.m. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with rosary and prayer services beginning at 5 p.m. A memorial fund is being established in her name.

Betty was born May 31, 1934, in Webster City to Fred and Velma (Detmer) Klaver. As a young girl she moved with her family to Iowa Falls where she graduated from high school in 1951. On Aug. 16, 1952, Betty was united in marriage to Jerry Donner. The couple made their home in Eldora. She worked in the assessor's office at the Hardin County Courthouse from 1962 until her retirement in 1997. While at the assessor's office she served as county assessor from 1980 until 1997.

Betty was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church; the Eldora Woman's Club for 25 years, until the club disband, serving as president for three years; was a former Eldora Rotarian; served on the Eldora School Board for six years, acting as president for two years; helped organize the Eldora Greenbelt Festival for six years; and was a member of the Hardin County Historical Group. She was also a member of the Iowa Assessor's Association and International Assessor's Association for 18 years, serving as president of the Iowa association in 1992 and 1993. She received the Outstanding Assessor's Award in 1995 from the Iowa Assessor's Association and the Governor's Community Award in 1990 and again in 1998. Betty enjoyed bowling and served with the Eldora Bowling Association, acting as president for three years; enjoyed golfing at the South Hardin Recreation Area in Union, serving on the board for three years; and playing bridge.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry; her mother, Velma, of Iowa Falls; three sons, Ted Donner and wife Kay of Baytown, Texas, Tom Donner and wife Linda of Fort Dodge, and Anthony Donner and wife Karen of Flower Mound, Texas; one sister, Jean (Robert) Eppard of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Richard Klaver and wife Jennifer of Iowa Falls; and five grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her father, Fred.
