IOWA FALLS - Doris Helen Hoffman, 94, of Iowa Falls died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Scenic Manor Care Facility in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls with Rev. Don Preston officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to North Iowa Hospice or to the First United Methodist Church.

Doris was born Aug. 11, 1909 to Charles A. and Susie (Platts) Jackson at her parents' home in Jackson Township, Hardin County. She graduated from Owasa High School in 1926. She taught country school in Hardin County, and was employed by Northwestern Bell in Iowa Falls as a telephone operator. On Dec. 8, 1931, she was united in marriage to Leonard E. Hoffman at the home of her parents. The couple lived on farms in the Owasa, Iowa Falls and Buckeye areas. In 1961, they moved to Washington, D.C., where they lived for eight years, retiring to Iowa Falls and spending their winter months in Arizona. Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Madole and husband Marly of Mt. Pleasant and Jean Chappell and husband C.B. of Morehead City, N.C.; one son, Gary Hoffman and wife Karla of Iowa Falls; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Mae Jackson of Eldora and Betty Jackson of Des Moines. Preceding her in death was her husband, Leonard; two brothers, Dallas and Gerald; one sister and brother-in-law, Glenita and Robert Pryor; and one great-granddaughter, Kristie Bahr.

The Linn's Funeral Home of Iowa Falls was in charge of arrangements.
