RADCLIFFE - David Harold Kolbe, 94, of Radcliffe died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 4, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Radcliffe with Pastor Marvin Dooley officiating. Burial was in the Hubbard Cemetery.

David was born Dec. 6, 1908, in Marshalltown to Frank and Anna (Mehulka) Kolbe. On June 24, 1931, he was united in marriage to Ruth McCoy at Webster City. David began the third generation of farming with Charlie McCoy, Ruth's father, in 1945, which he continued until 1963. He helped the McCoy family farm remain in the family for more than 100 years. David drove school bus for Radcliffe Community School in his later years, and had a small engine repair shop. He was a member of the Farm Bureau Service Company, serving on the board of directors; Mason member of the Antioch Lodge No. 617; and director of the McCoy school, which is still standing north of the McCoy home place.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; three sons, Duane and wife Shirley of Zearing, Donald and wife Marilyn of Story City, Gary and wife Janet of Geneva, Ill.; two daughters, Donna Schradle and husband Gerald of Ames and Karen Baker and husband Eric of Elmhurst, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Stanley Kolbe of Marshalltown; and seven sisters: Ruth Schaper of Grinnell, Evelyn Matney of Turlock, Calif., Tressa Epperly of San Diego, Calif., Bernice Cariello of Riverside, Ill., Shirley Wilkening of State Center, Josephine Lukehart of Des Moines, and Pauline Jessen of Independence, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Delos; two sisters, Helen Worsfold and Rosemary, in infancy; and one brother, Frank.

Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe was in charge of arrangements.
