ACKLEY - Lenora Janssen, 95, of Ackley died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 25, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley with burial in the West Friesland Cemetery, rural Ackley.
Lenora was born April 17, 1908, in Wellsburg to Folkert and Hiske (Spieker) DeVries. She attended country school at German No. 6. On March 1, 1928, she was united in marriage to John Janssen at the West Friesland parsonage. Lenora was employed by the Presbyterian Village in Ackley for 25 years. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and the Crescent Club. Reading and sewing were among Lenora's favorites until her eyesight failed.
Survivors include two daughters, Irene Finger of Aplington and Janice Sheeler of Ackley; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; a daughter in infancy; two grandsons, Eldon and Trent Finger; two sisters, Ella Huisman and Anna Boelman; and five brothers, Carl, Fred, Herman, Jerry and Edward DeVries.
Siestsema Funeral Home of Ackley was in charge of arrangements.
