ELDORA - Jessie Pickering, 91, of Eldora died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Eldora. Burial will follow in the Eldora Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family in her name.

Jessie was born April 17, 1912, in rural New Providence to Orie and Florence (Frazier) Gerry. She graduated from Eldora High School in 1930. On Sept. 18, 1934, she was united in marriage to Cecil A. Pickering at Grundy Center. The couple made their home in Eldora, where Jessie was employed by Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator, and worked in the family grocery store. Jessie was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Sansoci Club, Federated Women's Club, Women's Missionary Society and 20th Century Club.

Survivors include two nieces, Kathryn Wilts of Eldora and Ethel Hadley of Cedar Rapids, and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil, in January of 1999; and two brothers, Wilson and Joe.
