LATIMER - Henry A. Koenen, 83, of Latimer died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at Heritage Care Center in Mason City. Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the First Reformed Church in Alexander with Pastor Phil Arnold officiating. Burial was in the Alexander Cemetery. Military graveside rites were provided by the Hanson-Have American Legion Post No. 658 of Latimer. Memorials may be made to the First Reformed Church of Alexander.

Henry was born July 20, 1920, to Harm and Gazena (Halfwassen) Koenen in rural Latimer. He attended Plain View County School and served four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hermitage during W.W.II. On July 22, 1942, Henry was married to Viola Stoffer at the First Reformed Church in Alexander. The couple farmed in the Alexander-Latimer area until his retirement in 1983, at which time they moved to Latimer. Henry was a member of the First Reformed Church of Alexander and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Viola; three children, Dianne Long and husband Michael of Mason City, Janet Osborne and husband Thomas of Tucson, Ariz., and Craig of Newton; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harm and Peter; and four sisters, Grace, Anna, Rebecca and Helen.

Willim Funeral Home of Latimer was in charge of arrangements.
