Robert "Bob" Rutzen 70, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Wednesday at St. Louis, Missouri. Funeral services for Bob Rutzen will be 1:30 Saturday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday evening at the Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls chapel. An Elks memorial service will be held at 8:00 pm following visitation. Memorials may be directed to the family c/o his wife: Marilyn Rutzen, 2118 Timberedge Drive, Iowa Falls, Iowa. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Robert William Rutzen was born August 18, 1933, at Hubbard, Iowa, the son of William and Lydia (Reifschneider) Rutzen. He attended the Hubbard Community Schools graduating with the class of 1951. He graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree from Ellsworth Community College in 1953.

Bob served in the United Sates Air Force in 1955. On June 9, 1957 he was united in marriage to Marilyn E. Tysdahl at Garden City, Iowa. To this union 4 children were born: Christa, David, Melinda, and Suzanne.

Bob was a self-employed painter in Iowa Falls for many years retiring in 1995. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Iowa Falls, the benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1674, Iowa falls and the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post #188, Iowa Falls.

Bob Rutzen is survived by his wife of 46 years: Marilyn Rutzen of Iowa Falls; his children: Christa Herr and husband Bill of St. Peter, Minnesota, David Rutzen of French Lick, Indiana, Melinda Conn and husband Mark of Ballwin, Missouri, Suzanne Lowman and husband Steve of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Emily, Elizabeth, and Hannah Herr of St. Peter, bobby and Zachary Conn of Ballwin, Marie and Anthony Lowman of Des Moines; one brother: Wallace Rutzen and his wife Vera of Hubbard, Iowa; one sister-in-law: Connie Rutzen of Ames, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents: William and Lydia Rutzen, and one brother: Orvil Rutzen.
