PARKERSBURG- Joseph Carl Druvenga, 88, of Parkersburg died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Cedar Falls Health Care Center in Cedar Falls. Funeral services were Thursday, Aug. 14, at Christian Reformed Church, Parkersburg, with Rev. Frank Pott officiating. Military rites were presented by Parkersburg American Legion Post No. 385, with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.
Joseph was born Jan. 18, 1915 near Aplington to Reinhard and Gepke (Mulder) Druvenga. He attended rural schools near Parkersburg and Renville, Minn., returning to Parkersburg at the age of 18. In September of 1942, Joe entered the U.S. Army and served in North Africa and Italy, earning three bronze stars. On Nov. 28, 1942, he was united in marriage to Alice Frerichs in Neosho, Mo. After his discharge, he returned to the Parkersburg area where he farmed. Joe was employed by UNI, working in the physical plant, and owned and operated a sodding and landscaping service in Parkersburg. He was a member of the Parkersburg Christian Reformed Church and the American Legion. Joe enjoyed traveling, making an eventful European trip in 1984.
He is survived by three sons, Russell and wife Jocelyn of Dike, Darrell of Pella, and Dallas of Parkersburg; one daughter, Diane Roberts and husband Ken of Parkersburg; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-granddaugher; one brother; two sisters; and one sister-in-law. Preceding him in death were his wife; his parents; and two brothers, Henry and Charles.
Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home of Parkersburg was in charge of arrangements.
