COLUMBUS, Neb.- Specialist Blake C. Kelly, 21, of Columbus, Neb., died Tuesday July 29, 2003, in Bosnia while on active duty, due to injuries received in a traffic accident.

Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church-Pilzno in Osceola, Neb. with Rev. Thomas McGuire officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with military honors.

Blake C. Kelly was born May 7, 1982 in David City, Neb., to Randy and Patty (Bock) Kelly. He graduated from Shelby High School in 2001. In high school he was active in music and sports. Blake attended Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Neb., where he majored in livestock production and was an active member of the Rodeo Club.

On Sept. 7, 2002, he married Christina Cyza at St. Mary's Church-Pilzno, where he was a member. He joined the Nebraska Army National Guard in 1999, and served in the 167th Cavalry Squadron in Bosnia.

Blake is survived by his wife, Christina of Columbus. She is expecting the couple's first child in September. He is also survived by his parents of Shelby, Neb.; two sisters, Tina Kelly of Columbus and Korie Whitmore of Shelby; his grandmother, Joan Bock of Shelby; and grandfather Marlyn Kelly of Iowa Falls; great-grandmother Bernice Kelly of Iowa Falls; his aunts and uncles, Janna and Murl Biery of Iowa Falls, Todd Kelly of Princeton, Mo., and Becky and Randy Wiemer of Eagle, Colo.; and many nices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Don Bock, and two grandmothers, Doris Blankenship and Sharon Kelly.
