HUBBARD - Betty Jane Hoelscher, 74, of Hubbard died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 13, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hubbard, with burial following in the Hubbard Cemetery.
Betty Jane was born April 22, 1929, to Vern and Esther (Balvanz) Dubberke. She attended school at Grant No. 3 and graduated from Hubbard High School in 1946. On Sept. 20, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Merlin Hoelscher. They lived and farmed for many years in Concord and Grant Townships. She loved working outside and driving the tractor. Betty was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and also a member of LWML. She was a strong Christian and bore witness to her faith every day. Betty enjoyed making quilts for World Relief, and caring for the young and old alike.
She is survived by her two sons, Gene and wife Debra of Charlotte, N.C., and Lonnie and wife Joan of Radcliffe; two grandsons, Warren Hoelscher of Marshalltown, and Brian Hoelscher of Waterloo; one granddaughter, Melissa Hoelscher of Charlotte; along with many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother and sister-in-law Gilbert and Elva Dubberke; and nephew David Dubberke.
Boeke Funeral Home of Hubbard was in charge of arrangements.
