IOWA FALLS - Robert "Bob" George Johnson, 91, of Iowa Falls, formerly of Latimer, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2003, at the Valley View Nursing Center, Eldora. Private family graveside inurnment of his cremated remains will be held at Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Memorials may directed to the First Congregation Church, 520 College Ave., Iowa Falls, IA 50126.

Robert was born Oct. 21, 1911, on Sunnyside Farm, south of Iowa Falls, to Warren T. and Miriam Pyle Johnson. In 1915, the family moved to Oaklawn Farm five miles southeast of Iowa Falls where he grew up. He attended a one room country school for eight years, graduated from Iowa Falls Community Schools with the class of 1929, aand was the valedictorian of his class. He went to Ellsworth College for two years.

In 1938, he moved to a farm near Latimer where he farmed for 36 years. He married Helen Mahoney in Mason City in 1939. Robert was active in many organizations including the Franklin County Board of Education, Franklin County Farm Bureau, Franklin County Fair Board, Franklin County Cattlemen and Pork Producers Association, Iowa Shorthorn Breeders, Iowa Cattlemen and Iowa Pork Producers, Iowa Beef Improvement Association, and was a 4-H Club leader. Bob taught G. I. classes after World War II. In 1941, he and his father were named Master Pork Producers.

Bob had his own farm management business which he continued until his retirement. In 1979, he and Helen bought a home in Iowa Falls where they continued to live.

Survivors include two sons, Jim and wife Norene of Eldora and Tom and wife Sandy of Ackley, Iowa; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents, Warren and Miriam Johnson; and two sisters, Margaret Johnson and Deborah Schwartz.
The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
