OLLIE - Brian Dale Smith, 46, of Ollie, and formerly of Marshalltown, died Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service was held Monday, July 21, at the Ollie Baptist Church with Pastor Conrad Lundberg of the Marshalltown First Baptist Church officiating. Interment of the ashes will be held at Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Brian was born on May 28, 1957, in Iowa Falls the son of K. Dale and Carol (Waggoner) Smith. He and his family moved to Marshalltown when he was 11. Brian was a 1975 graduate of Marshalltown High School and received his bachelor of arts degree in Christian religion and philosophy from Judson College in Elgin, Ill.; In 1987, he earned his master's degree in divinity from the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, Ill. Brian had served in the United States Army from 1978-1983 and was stationed in Turkey and at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He had served as pastor at churches in Illinois, Ohio and Iowa and had recently been installed as the pastor of the Ollie Baptist Church. He was an avid reader and historian and enjoyed bike riding and playing games with his family. He had also been active in the Ollie Historical Society.

His survivors include his three daughters, Ashleigh, Alayna and Allison all of Marshalltown, his son, Andrew, also of Marshalltown; his parents, K. Dale and Carol Smith of Marshalltown; his three sisters, Penny of Peoria, Ill., Candy of Monmouth, Ill., Wendy Monahan and husband Mike of Peoria; his brother, Brad and wife Lisa of Las Vegas, Nev., and several nieces and nephews.

Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont is handling the arrangements.
