Mennie John Bakker, 78, of Iowa Falls, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls. A memorial funeral service for Mennie Bakker will be 11:00 am Tuesday, July 29, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls. Visitation with the body present will be from 2:00 to 6:00 pm Friday, July 25, 2003, at the Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls chapel. Mennie has donated his body to the University of Osteopathic Medicine, Des Moines. Military honors will be provided by the Elliott-Keninger American Legion Post # 252, Ackley, Iowa. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Mennie John Bakker was born October 8, 1924, in Grundy County, Iowa, the son of John and Anna [ Ross ] Bakker.

He attended the Wellsburg, Iowa Community Schools. He served with the United States Army from September 12, 1950 to September 13, 1952, as a Turret Artillery Repairman with the Fifth Army, 7843rd Ordinance Rebuilding Detachment during the Army of Occupation of Germany.

On August 4, 1956 he was united in marriage to Edna Mae Tjarks at Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Mennie was a truck driver with Western Trash Company before his military service, and for National Movers following his military service. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, and the Elliott-Keninger American Legion Post # 252 Ackley, Iowa.

Mennie is survived by his wife: Edna Bakker of Iowa Falls, Iowa; three daughters: Anna Marie Adams and husband David of Humboldt, Iowa, Valerie Schaefer and husband David of Clear Lake, Iowa, Denise Haglund and husband Mark of Williams, Iowa; three sons: John Sherbon and wife Sandra of Waterloo, Iowa, Greg Bakker and wife Dee of Atlantic, Iowa, Lynn Bakker of El Cajon, California; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister: Alice Kramer and husband Harold of Clear Lake, Iowa; and one brother: Meint Bakker and wife Bonita of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Everett Bakker, Garriet Bakker, and Gratus Bakker.
