George Stewart, 89, of Ackley, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 21, 2003, at the heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls. Memorial services for George Stewart will be 10:30 am Thursday at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Ackley, with inurnment at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Bristow. The Linn's Funeral Homes Ackley Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

George Ray Stewart was born January 20, 1914, at Bristow, Iowa, the son of George Wilder and Vera [ Knoll ] Stewart. He attended the Bristow, Iowa Community Schools.

On November 12, 1946 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hicok at Waterloo, Iowa.

George worked for the Civilian Conservation Crops from 1934 to 1936 building the Pine Lake concrete dam. He was self-employed owning George's Repair in Ackley, Iowa. After selling the business in 1976 he and his wife owned the Lake Region Motel in Longville, Minnesota retiring again in 1992 to Ackley, Iowa.

George is survived by one son: Thomas Ray Stewart of Junction City, Oregon; one daughter: Sheryl D. Stewart of Ackley, Iowa; one foster-daughter: Marlys Hoy-Kostle; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters: Betty Card of Hampton, Iowa, and Dorothy Gibson of Green, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Vera Stewart; his wife: Dorothy Stewart; one sister: Darlene Stewart; and one brother: Orville Stewart.
