WATERLOO-Herb R. Miehe, 75, of Waterloo, formerly of Iowa Falls, died of congestive heart failure Thursday, March 13, 2003, at his home. Services were held Monday, March 17, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post No. 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post No. 31.
Herb was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Waterloo to Herbert and Luella Burk Miehe. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo and the University of Northern Iowa and Gustavus Adolphus College. He married Wanda Pagel Feb. 27, 1953, in Oelwein. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in the war and also the Korean Medal of Honor. Herb was a former insurance agent in Iowa Falls. He retired as a supervisor at John Deere in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; two sons, Michael Miehe and wife Cindy of Waterloo and Burk Miehe and wife Julie of Buckingham; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Fred Miehe. He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece.
