HUBBARD-John W. Sheldahl, 91, of Hubbard died Sunday, Nov.r 24, 2002, at the Colonial Manor in Zearing. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hubbard with burial in the Hubbard Cemetery. Rev. Matthew Rueger officiated.
John was born Aug. 1, 1911, on a farm near Roland to Henry and Anna Birkestrand Sheldahl. He was educated in the Roland school until he was 12 and then attended rural school through 8th grade. On March 23, 1939, he married Alice Olson in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Des Moines. They farmed for 24 years in the Hubbard area until purchasing a farm near Roland in 1963. He retired from farming in 1976 and in 1977 they built a new home in Hubbard. He worked for his son at John's DX service station until the garage closed in 1980. John had resided in his home until last December when he moved to Colonial Manor at Zearing. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hubbard.
He is survived by a son, John, of Hubbard; a granddaughter, Sheila Krull and husband Jason of Story City; a grandson, Jay Sheldahl, and wife Jennifer of Hubbard; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Noah and Lani Krull; a sister, Harriett Hokel of Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Sheldahl; five sisters Emily Ryg, Beulah Olson, Angeline Wierson, Olga Erickson and Minerva Anfinson; and three brothers Eric, David and Mark.
Boeke Funeral Home of Hubbard was in charge of arrangements.
