Tragedy at Alden
~
Alden, Oct. 3. – In what was supposed to be a drunken quarrel at the Barhite farm, two miles south of here, last night, Jones Lane shot and killed his son-in-law, John N. Barhite. Particulars at this hour are not obtainable, but it is understood that Lane, who is about 65 years of age, had been drinking, went to his son-in-law’s home, Barhite’s wife being Lane's stepdaughter. A family quarrel was started and the old man seized a gun emptied it contents into Barhite’s neck. One of the hired men came to his place for a physician, but it was stated that Barhite would probably die before help could reach him. The affair has caused considerable excitement here.
