ELDORA - Odetha "Dee" Hackney, 88, formerly of Gifford died at the Eldora Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004. Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Gifford Methodist Church. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 5-9 p.m., at Biersborn Funeral Home in Union where the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to her family.

Dee was born July 5, 1915, in Kellogg to Jacob and Emma (Lightfoot) Mulbrook. She was raised and educated in the Newton area. On April 1, 1933, she was united in marriage to Rex Hackney in Marshalltown. The couple lived in Newton, Ames and Clemons before settling in Gifford. Dee enjoyed antiques and built her own antique business. She was a member of the Gifford Methodist Church and the Gifford Card Club.
Survivors include her three sons, Norman and wife Carol of Eldora, Gail and wife Kathleen and Ronald, all of Gifford; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rex; an infant son; five brothers; and six sisters.
