ELDORA-Charles W. Engel, 71, of Eldora, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Services will be held Wednesday, July 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with burial in the Eldora City Cemetery. Pastor Scot Shelburne will officiate. Full military honors will be provided by the Walter-Sayer Post No. 182 of the American Legion and V.F.W. Roll-Harless Post No. 3974, Eldora. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Charles was born May 31, 1930, in Beecher City, Ill., to Richard and Pauline Watson Engel. He lived his younger years in Beecher City and in 1950 he enlisted in the United States Army for two years, serving in the Korean Conflict. In 1970, Charles moved to Eldora and on Dec. 9, 1975, he married Carolyn White in Rock Island, Ill. He worked as a carpenter and in construction throughout his life. He was a former member of the Eldora American Legion. His hobbies were fishing, fixing bicycles and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; three sons, Charles Andrew Engel and wife, Jonni, of Eldora; Craig Gorman and wife, Anne, of Tallahasse, Fla., and Kevin Gorman of Huntsville, Ala.; three daughters, Sara Engel of Eldora, Donna Miller and husband, Jon, of Paullina, and Dawanna Engel of Liscomb; 10 grandchildren; and a sister, Paula Lee and husband, John, of Farmington, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two grandchildren.
