IOWA FALLS-Arlene Kessell, 97, of Iowa Falls died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at Scenic Manor, in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, with the Reverend Don Preston officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be one hour before services. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Ruby Arlene was born Jan. 16, 1907, at Buckeye, the daughter of Sina John and Minnie Augusta [Frederick] Hartman. The family moved to Iowa Falls when she was 6 years old. She attended the Iowa Falls Community Schools graduating with the class of 1925. She then attended the Ellsworth College Conservatory of Music graduating with a Bachelor of Music Degree. Arlene taught music in Titonka for one year and then returned to Iowa Falls. On Feb. 23, 1934, she was united in marriage to Earl Wallace Kessell at Iowa Falls.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls, the American Legion Auxiliary (50-year member and past president), the Eastern Star (50-year and past Worthy Matron), the Averine Rebekah Lodge (50-year and past Noble Grand), the Thimbles Club and an honorary member of the Etude Club.

Arlene is survived by one grandson:, John Kessell of Washington, Iowa; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Hartman and wife Clara of Sun City, Ariz.; and one sister, Joan Ellis of Rockport, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; and one stepson, Wallace.
