Oct. 30, 1933-June 18, 2001

IOWA CITY-Virginia Lou Liittschwager, 67, formerly of Alden, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Atrium Village in Hills. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 20 from 4-8 p.m. at the Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Graveside services will be held at the Buckeye Cemetery, on Thursday, June 21, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tim Zimmermann of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Iowa City, officiating. Memorials may be designated for Women's Athletics through the University of Iowa Foundation or for the benefit of Atrium Village in Hills.

Virginia was born October 30, 1933, at Alden, to James A. and Eva Kreamer Idso. She graduated from the Alden High School in 1951, and from Iowa State Teachers College in 1955 with a major in physical education. She then taught and worked in Illinois prior to moving with her family to Iowa City in 1961, where she worked as a store supervisor for many years. On June 19, 1955, she married John M. Liittschwager in Alden.

Survivors include her husband and four children, Jeffrey and his wife, Patti, of Clive, Fonda and her husband, Lyle Weber, of Marshalltown, Robert "Rob" and his wife, Molly, of Iowa City, and Jean Liittschwager and her husband, Trey Matteson, of Menlo Park, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two brothers.
