Aug. 22, 1906-June 11, 2001

ALDEN-Hazel Marie Lettow, 94, of Alden, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden, with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Rev. Jay Jaeger will officiate. Visitation is from noon to 7 p.m. at Linn's Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, where the family will receive friends between the hours of 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family in care of her son, James Lettow, 15756 G. Avenue, Alden.

Hazel was born Aug. 22, 1906, at Eldora, to William and Anna Kuhfus Ziesman. She attended rural schools and graduated from Eldora High School in 1924. She was a secretary with the Hardin County Farm Bureau in Eldora, and a secretary with Anderle Furniture and Funeral Home in Eldora. On Oct. 12, 1932, she married Herbert John Lettow at the Buckeye Lutheran Church parsonage. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Alden, and was a previous member of the Buckeye Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent. She was a member of of the Alden Senior Citizens and longtime member of the Alden Cemetery Association. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, gardening and raising flowers.

She is survived by a son, James Lettow and wife, Joy, of Alden; two daughters, Connie Wagner and husband, Kenneth, of Eldora, and Lois Kapfer of Ames; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Cable of Eldora. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Richard Kapfer; and two sisters, Vadna Eggleston and Lois Vierkandt.
