WELLSBURG- Raymond Hippen, 71, of Wellsburg, died of cancer, Thursday, June 7, 2001. Services were held Monday, June 11, at the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg, with burial in Shiloh Cemetry, Wellsburg. Pastor Harold Miller officiated.

Raymond was born Nov. 13, 1929, at Grundy Center, to Jake and Mattie Riebkes Hippen. He attended rural schools in German Township and worked as a farm hand. On May 18, 1948, he married Mary Abbas at East Friesland Presbyterian Church near Ackley. They farmed northwest of Wellsburg until 1972 when they moved into town. His hobbies were leathercraft and woodworking, items which were displayed Camp Sunnyside, and made as gifts for his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and computer research.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Marilyn Adelmund and husband, Jerry, of Parkersburg, and Donna Crosser and husband, Harold, of Iowa Falls; a son, Arnold and wife, Pat, of Flandreau, S.D.; a brother, Delbert, of Wellsburg; a sister, Anna Marie Card, of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Ella; and a son-in-law, Tony Woodley.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg, was in charge of arrangements.
