Aug. 8, 1906-June 5, 2001

RADCLIFFE-Elmyra Varland, 94, of Radcliffe, died Tuesday, June 5 , 2001, at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard. Memorial services were held Friday, June 8 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe with cremated remains interred at the Radcliffe Cemetery. Rev. Daniel Hart officiated.

Elmyra was born Aug. 8, 1906 in Radcliffe, to Lewis and Julia Heng Larson.

She attended country school and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1925. She received training and taught country school. In 1927 she married Verner Kumrow at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. They farmed near Radcliffe and after the death of her husband she worked in her father's cafe for six years. In 1942, she married Emil Varland in Nashua. After his death in 1970 she went to work at the Bethany Manor in Story City. When she retired she moved to Radcliffe and lived there until 1999 when she entered the Hubbard Care Center.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Ilene Kumrow of Hubbard; three grandchildren; three stepdaughters-in-law, Mavis Varland of Ames, Lois Varland and Wyn Varland, both of Radcliffe; seven stepgrandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie Moon of Pueblo, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a son, Dean Kumrow; three stepsons; and three sisters, Gladys Harris, Jurine Benson, and Lillian Auestad.

Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe was in charge of arrangements.
