PHOENIX, Ariz.-Rachel Nadine Dearing, 76, of Phoenix, formerly of Alden, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Phoenix. There will be no service but there will be inurnment at the Alden Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Honey Creek Preservation Group, at New Providence.

Rachel was born May 16, 1925, in New Providence to Ralph and Marie Humeston Walton. She was a descendant of the Quaker Reece family who founded the Quaker communities of New Providence and Honey Creek. She graduated from Alden High School in 1943, Ellsworth College and AIB College in Des Moines, majoring in secretarial science and playing on the basketball team. She moved to Phoenix in 1948 and on Sept. 4, 1953, she married George Dearing. She was secretary to the principal of two high schools in Phoenix and she and her husband were members of the Dons of Arizona for 43 years.

She is survived by her husband, George, of Phoenix; a daughter, Diane ; a son, Hugh and wife, Leslie; five grandchildren and a sister, Sara Lee Henslee. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Philip.

Surls Funeral Home of Alden was in charge of local arrangements.
