Radcliffe - Tom Hetland, 81, of Radcliffe, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at his apartment in Radcliffe. Funeral Services were held Monday, Oct. 2, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe with the Rev. Daniel Hart officiating. Flag folding and presentation was provided by the American Legion Post No. 317 of Radcliffe. Burial was at the Radcliffe Cemetery. Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe was in charge of the arrangements.
Tom Hetland was born June 16, 1925, north of Radcliffe, to Nels and Karina (Bjelland) Hetland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Tom graduated from the Radcliffe High School with the class of 1945.
Tom lived and worked as a farm laborer in or around Radcliffe for most of his life, except the two years he served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a military policeman. In later years, Tom worked at the Turkey plant in Ellsworth until his retirement. He moved to Radcliffe 12 years ago. On May 5, 2001 he was united in marriage to Martha (Bessman) at the Peace United Church of Christ in Buckeye. They enjoyed playing cards and bingo.
Thos thankful for having shared his life include his wife, Martha Hetland of Radcliffe, step children Dave Tjarks and wife Leann of Goldfield, Sheryl Pickering and husband Dave of Lakewood, Colo., Anita Reed and husband Don of Alden, and Martin Tjarks and wife Janelle of Mill Grove, MO; 10 step-grandchildren; 13 step great grandchildren; sisters and brother Carrie Brightwell of Clinton, Bertha Dubberke of Radlcliffe, Normen Hetland of Story City and Dorothy Tribby of Ellsworth; along with other relatives and friends.
His parents, an infant sister and a brother Pete Hetland preceded Tom in death.
