September 27, 1931-March 18, 2008

IOWA FALLS—Catherine Smalley, 76, of Iowa Falls, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 22, at the First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Burial was at the Alden Cemetery. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.

Catherine E. Cook was born Sept. 27, 1931, at Scotia, Neb., the daughter of Charlotte Alice (Bushman) and George William Cook. She attended the Alden Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1949. On Nov. 18, 1949, she was united in marriage to Wayne Smalley at Blairsburg, Iowa. To this union four children were born: David, Sally, Julie and Sherri. The couple was later divorced. Catherine was a secretary for the First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls, for 21 years, retiring in 1988. She was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s Circle, the United Methodist Saints Group, the Iowa Falls Mothers Club, the Iowa Falls Garden Club and her card club.

Catherine is survived by her children, David (Wendy) Smalley of Rockford, Ill., Sally Kelley of La Junta, Colo., Julie (Robert Wille) Mueller of Clare, Iowa, Sherri Smalley of Loveland Colo.; six grandchildren, Emily (John) White of Rockford, Amanda Smalley of Rockford, Jenifer McGlone of Phoenix, Ariz., John (Stephanie) Mueller of Waukee, Iowa, Stephanie Murphy of La Junta, Jess Kelley of La Junta; five great-grandchildren, Bruce Smalley of Rockford, Sierra and Javin Mueller of Waukee, Luke and Jack Murphy of La Junta; one sister, Charlene (Joe) Shore of Eldora; and three brothers, the Rev. Clive (Mavis) Cook of Cedar Falls, Robert (Ruth) Cook of Iowa Falls, Harold (Ramona) Cook of Middletown, Del. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Charlotte Cook.
