IOWA FALLS—Ronald K. Laing, 66, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at the Mercy Hospice-Johnston after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls will be assisting the family with service arrangements and cremation care. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Ron for the wonderful, compassionate care that he and his family received at Mercy Hospice-Johnston, 5820 Winwood Dr., Johnston, IA 50131.

Ron was born on Aug. 22, 1941, in Mineola, N.Y., to Margaret (Oerter) and Ronald K. Laing Sr. After growing up on Long Island, N.Y., and graduating from the Huntington High School, he continued his education at Farmingdale ATI. In March of 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Ron served as a Presidential Honor Guard in Washington, D.C. While stationed in Hawaii he met Patricia J. Hosch. They were married at St. Augustines Church in Waikiki, Hawaii, on Dec. 28, 1964. Upon military discharge in June of 1965, they moved to Long Island, N.Y., and lived there until 1967. At that time, they moved to upstate New York where Ron worked in sales for Wine Merchants. In 1975 they moved with their three children to Iowa Falls, where Ron continued his sales career in the animal health field. Ron enjoyed following sports, traveling, good food, great conversation, the ocean and, most of all, spending time with his wife, children and eight grandchildren. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his hearty laugh, great sense of humor and unconditional love and pride he had for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, of 43 years; two sons, Mike and wife Shelana of Beaverdale, and Doug and wife Christi of Blue Springs, Mo.; one daughter, Renee and husband Brad of Overland Park, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Justin, Matthew, Jakob, Joshua, Madison, Kaitlin, Halle and Megan; a brother, Richard Laing of Summit, N.J.; and a sister, Nancy Reynolds of Long Island, N.Y.
