Steamboat Rock--Darrell Montgomery, 76, of Steamboat Rock, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at his home, under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the First Baptist Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. David Schwechel officiating. Burial will be at the Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, is in charge of the arrangements.

Darrell Ray Montgomery was born May 31, 1931, at Iowa Falls, the son of Charles "Carlos" D. and Elva Fay (Whipple) Montgomery. He attended Alden Community Schools. On Nov. 14, 1949, he was united in marriage to Arlene Evelyn MacKaben at Webster City. He served with the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 serving in the Korean War. Darrell was employed at Black Seed Farms, Ames, and then as a custodian with the Radcliffe Community Schools, the Steamboat Rock Community Schools and then with Valley View Nursing Home, Eldora. He loved being with his family and friends and also loved to dance to old-time music (polkas and waltzes).

Darrell is survived by his wife: Arlene Montgomery of Steamboat Rock; three daughters: Twyla Eighmey of Iowa Falls, Dawn Montgomery of Steamboat Rock, and Lesa (Bill) Cooper of Ackley; three sons; Allen (Sue) Montgomery of Toms River, N.J. Arlen (Renee) Montgomery of White Settlement, Texas, and Kevin (Angie) Montgomery of Beaman/Conrad; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother; Dallas (Louise) Montgomery of Iowa Falls; and one sister: Darlene (Lyle) Thompson of Alden. He was preceded in death by his parents: Carlos and Elva Montgomery; one brother: Duane Montgomery; and one son-in-law Bill Eighmey.
