Rites here for John Granzow, 86, Hardin Pioneer

Born near Steamboat in 1869, Lived on Farm near Eldora

Last rites for John Granzow, 86, of Eldora, a life-long resident of Hardin County, were held on Wednesday at the Andrle and Creps Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. and at St. Paul's Lutheran church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Zimmermann officiating. Interment was in the Eldora Cemetery.

Mr. Granzow passed away Sunday evening at 9:40 at his home here. (22 January 1956).

Pallbearers were Harold Dettbarn, Marvin Marske, Marvin Schwebke, Ilo Kusserow, William Dobbrunz and Arnold Gruelich.

Mrs. Harold Dettbarn, Mrs. Ella Steinfeldt, and Mrs. Otto Barz were in charge of the flowers. Vocals were by the St. Paul's choir with Miss Meta Balvanz as organist.

Mr. Granzow was born near Steamboat Rock Nov 20, 1869, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Granzow. When he was five years old his father bought a farm west of Eldora. Mr. Granzow grew to manhood in that neighborhood. His son, George, now lives on the same farm.

On March 22, 1893 he was united in marriage to Matilda Kadaloph of Eldora and they lived on the farm west of Eldora until 1935 when they bought a home in Eldora on south Washington street.

IN 1943 Mr. and Mrs. Granzow celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and in 1953 their 60th wedding. They had been married 62 years at the time of Mr. Granzow's death.

Mr. Granzow is survived by his wife and five children. The children are Mrs. Amanda Eller of Radcliffe, Mrs. Lorena Hansen of Eldora, Mrs. Tena Froning of Mason City, Carl and George of Eldora. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

One son, August, preceded Mr. Granzow in death on Dec 17, 1932.

Mr. Granzow was the last member of a family of nine children. He was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Eldora.
