Britt - James Kemp, 83, farmer, landowner and cattle buyer, died at his home here Tuesday after a long illness. A bachelor, Mr. Kemp and his brother, Ross, with whom he lived on a farm west of Britt, recently gave $40,000 to the new Hancock county hospital on condition that $85,000 be raised which has been done.
Mr. Kemp was vice president of the First State bank of Britt, former president of the Britt creamery board, former president of the Farmers elevator, was a director of the old First National bank of Britt and a member of the Methodist church. He had lived in this vicinity for nearly 60 years.
Besides his brother, Ross, the only survivor is a nephew, Bern Carrithers, of Peoria, Ill.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the farm home and at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, the Rev. William E. Butler officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in the Britt Evergreen cemetery. Boughton's funeral home of Britt was in charge.
