Funeral Rites For C. L. Woman
Conducted at U. B. Church, Ventura and Burial at EllingtonClear Lake, March 3 - Funeral services for Mrs. E. F. Hayes, 71, who died suddenly Friday night at a Mason City hospital, were held Monday afternoon at the United Brethren church, Ventura, the Rev. Mr. Zike in charge. A number of friends, relatives and flowers paid her due respects. Burial was made in the Ellington cemetery.
Eva B. Hubbard Hayes was born at Dorset, Wis., Oct. 26, 1859. She accompanied her parents west in a movers wagon, settling on a farm in Ellington township, Hancock county. At the early age of 14 she began her career as a teacher in the rural schools of Hancock and Cerro Gordo counties which she continued for a period of 30 years.
On Oct. 16, 1909 [1889], she was married to E. Foster Hayes of Ellington. They began housekeeping on a farm in Albert Lea, Minn., but after a few years moved back to the present farm north of Clear Lake in Grant township. During this time she was active in farm social life and her church.
Five children were born to this union, three sons, Ralph W., of Releigh, N. Car.; J. Claire, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Lynde F., of Renwick; and two daughter, Merna, who died in infancy and Mrs. Faye Anderson of Minneapolis, Minn. All the children but Ralph were present at the bedside of their mother when she died and at the funeral.
Besides her husband, Foster Hayes, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Irene Potter, Waucoma, and two Mich,; and Ralph Hubbard, Flint, Mch.; and Ralph Hubbard, Lincoln, Nebr. (sic)
