F. A. Brechwald

Services for F. A. Brechwald were held on Monday at 10:00 at the Boughton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Father Justin A. Kane. pastor of St. Patrick's Church bringing the message.

Ferdinand Andrew Brechwald, son of Andrew and Barbara Schmidt Brechwald was born at Zornheim Germany on November 5, 1870. When ten years of age he came to America with his parents, and settled in Ida County, where he received his education and grew to manhood. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Catholic faith.

On March 20, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Lilla Belknap, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Belknap, the wedding taking place at Castana, Iowa.

The couple established their home at Ida Grove where Mr. Brechwald was the owner of a Cigar Factory and was established in that work for many years until larger factories took over the profession. Blessing the home of Mr. and Mrs. Brechwald was two daughters, Barbara and Harriet.

Mr. Brechwald was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Catholic Faith.

For the past twenty years, Mr. Brechwald has resided at Britt, and has resided at the home of his daughter and son in law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Korneisel.

For the past year he has been in failing health and on Thursday of the past week he entered the Hancock Memorial Hospital at Britt and Friday afternoon slept away at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 17 days. The family circle was broken in 1953 when the daughter (Harriett) Mrs. Ed Joy, of Fort Dodge, passed away.

He is survived by his wife, Lilla who resides in Los Angeles, Calif.; his daughter, Mrs. Carl (Barbara) Korneisel, 5 grandchildren, Kenneth Korneisel, Clinton; Mrs. Lyle (Barbara) Hullinger, Alexander, Minn.; Robert Korneisel, Britt and Mrs. Robert (Katherine) Shriver, Jefferson, Iowa; Dr. Keith Korneisel, Denver, Colorado, as well as 9 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mrs. William Murphy, Ida Grove; Mrs. Kate Rohwer, Schleswig, Ia.; Mrs. Frank Hart, Powell, Wyoming.

The interment took place in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.

Former Resident Dies At Britt

Ferdinand A. Brechwald, 87, died in hospital at Britt on Saturday, March 22.

Mr. Brechwald was born in Germany. He was a former resident of Ida Grove. He and his brother, John, operated a cigar manufacturing company here for many years. Their famous brands, "Board of Trade" and "Extra Fine" were in popular demand in western Iowa. He retired and moved to Britt about 20 years ago.

Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. in Boughton funeral home in Britt.
