Former Mayor Of Garner Dies

Marvin Zeiger, 69, Was Pioneer Iowa Jeweler

Garner - Marvin Zeiger, 69, Garner jeweler, died Monday morning. Zeiger had not been well for some time but became seriously ill about 2 weeks ago and was taken to the hospital.

Marvin Zeiger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Zeiger, was born at Eldora and when a young man went with his brother, Frank, to Buffalo Center where they engaged in the drug and jewelry business. About 44 years ago they came to Garner and engaged in the drug and jewelry business.

Zeiger was identified with much of the progress in the town of Garner and served as councilman, mayor, fire chief and as a member of the school board. His wife died about 3 years ago and since that time Mr. Zeiger has lived alone.

He leaves 3 daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Toohey of New York City; Audrey, who teaches school at Independence and Maxine, who is employed in a civil service position at Levenworth, Kans.

Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of the daughters.

Zeiger Rites Set

Garner - Funeral services for Marvin Zeiger, 69, who died at a Mason City hospital Monday, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Bohn funeral home with the Rev. Doctor W. A. Pollock, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, in charge. Burial will be in Concord township cemetery southeast of Garner.
