OBITUARY OF ANDREW ZWALD.

Andrew Zwald was born Sept. 24, 1848 in the Canton of Berne Switzerland. There too he received his early education. Still very young he left home and went to Wuerttemberg in southern Germany. There in 1873 he took as his wife, Johanna Wagner, nee Fischer, who was a widow and had one son. She presented him with three children, 2 sons and one daughter.

In the year 1887 they emigrated to America and came directly to Garner. Through diligence and patience they were soon able to purchase some land and establish their own home. This farm is located about 3 miles northwest of Garner, upon which Richard is now residing. In the year 1907 Mrs. Zwald suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never completely recovered.

Two years later they retired from active life and moved to the town of Klemme, where they hoped to enjoy their last days on earth. But it was not to be long, for in 1912 Mrs. Zwald suffered another stroke and passed away. The home was broken up, and the stricken husband had to make his home with his children. Most of the time he spent with his son Richard, on the home farm.

Last spring, as though anticipating his early departure out of this world, he, with his daughter, Mrs. Ax, made a trip to Philadelphia, to visit his brother, whom he hadn't seen for years. And while on the trip or immediately after his return, symptoms of pleurisy set in, which later developed into pneumonia, and was the immediate cause of his death. After being confined to his bed for about 9 days, he passed to his reward in the, morning of May 16th. He reached an age of 69 yrs., 8 mos., 12 days.

He Is survived and his death mourned by his four children: Fred Wagner of Whittemore, Iowa; Richard Zwald of Garner; Charles Zwald of Prescott, Wis.; Mrs. Chas. Ax of Klemme; nine grandchildren and by many friends.

He was buried on Saturday morning in the Calvary Cemetery at Klemme, after services in the Reformed Church in Klemme, of which he was a member, Rev. Wm. P. Thiel officiating. May his memory be blessed.
