Ella Ward

KLEMME: Mrs. Ella Ward, 80, of Klemme, died Tuesday (Jan. 15, 1980) in a Garner nursing home. Funeral services are planned for 10:30 .a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Klemme. The Rev. Don Griffen, assisted by the Rev. Earl Josten, will officiate. Burial will be in Klemme Cemetery. Friends may call today at Quesenberry Funeral Home, Klemme.

Mrs. Ward is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dwight (Elsie) Johnston, Houston, Texas; a son, Chester, Crete, Ill., three grandchildren, and two brothers, Harold Ridder, Garner, and Walter Ridder, Leland.

Ella Ward, 81

Services were held January 18 for Ella Ward, 81, at the United Methodist Church, Klemme, with the Rev. Don Griffin and Rev. Earl Josten conducting the services. Mrs. Robert Schultz was the organist and accompanied Kris Whitney, Thelma Arnold and Beverly Thorson as they sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus:, "Blessed Assurance" and the congregation as they sang, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God". Casket bearers were Virgil Stille, Morris Neuhring, Franklin Kluckhohn, Ronald Gibbs, Cecil Katter, and Byrnes Lemke. Burial was in the Klemme Cemetery. The Quesenberry Funeral Home, Klemme, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ella Ward, the daughter of August and Ida Ridder, was born Feb. 2, 1899, at their home in Klemme. She attended and graduated from the Klemme Public Schools. She learned her catechism in the German Methodist Church and became a member of the Methodist Church, Klemme.

In 1919 she married Frank F. Ward. They farmed in Kossuth and Hancock counties until 1928 when they moved to Klemme. She enjoyed music, reading and stamp collecting and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She moved to Prairie View in 1975 and lived there until moving to Concord Manor Nursing Home where she died.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank and her brothers Will and Ben Ridder.

She is survived by her son, Chester L. Ward and his wife Sonja, Crete, Ill.; her daughter Elsie M. Johnston and her husband Dwight, Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Laura Ann, Bruce and Clarke Johnston; two brothers, Herald Ridder, Garner and Walter Ridder, Leland; and relatives in the Klemme area.

Funeral services for Ella Ward were held from the United Methodist Church at Klemme, Iowa on January 18, 1980 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Don Griffin and the Rev. Earl Josten officiating at the services.

On Sept. 11, 1919 she married Frank F. Ward. They farmed in Kossuth and Hancock counties until 1928, when they moved to Klemme to make their home. They reared their children in the former Methodist Episcopal Church where they were members.

She shared her love of music with her family and enjoyed reading, her stamp collection, and growing flowers. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary.

She moved to Prairie View Home in Garner in 1975 and resided there until recently when she moved to Concord Manor where she passed away.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank and her brothers, Will and Ben Ridder.

She is survived by her son Chester L. Ward of Crete, Illinois, her daughter, Elsie M. Johnston of Houston, Texas, three grandchildren, two brothers, Herold Ridder of Garner and Walter Ridder of Leland, and many relatives in the Klemme area.
