MOE FUNERAL IS HELD IN GARNER

Casper K. Moe, Pioneer Farmer in Hancock, Is Buried

GARNER, Sep. 3, - Casper K. Moe, one of the early settlers of Garner, who died at the home of his son, Chester H. Moe Sunday night after an illness of more than a year, was buried here yesterday.

Mr. Moe was born Feb. 1, 1858 in Korsmo, a suburb of Christiania, Norway, and came to Garner at the age of 22. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Elizabeth Stork, daughter of pioneers in the Clear Lake neighborhood. The wedding took place Jan. 28, 1881 at the Methodist parsonage here, with the Rev. Mr. Black officiating. A year before their marriage Mr. Moe built a store, that is now the C. O. Roe grocery and operated a shoe store for six years.

He purchased 320 acres of land just east of town, paying $15 an acre where he lived until 13 years ago when he moved to Ames that his daughters might attend college.

Mr. Moe sold 160 acres to George Knaupp and the remainder is the home of his son, Chester. Mr. Moe improved the farm with beautiful buildings, set out the large walnut grove and had it drained.

It was Mr. Moe's desire to move back from Ames last April. He is survived by his wife, son Chester, and two daughters, Vera, Mrs. Walter H. Moore, of Rossville, Ind., and Vivian, Mrs. Max K. Jones of Muncy, Ind. Four children died in infancy. Mr. Moe was a member of the Congregational church and a thirty second degree Mason.

Funeral services were from the home a 2 o'clock and at the Congregational church at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev C. F. Schmidt of Stanhope delivered the sermon. He was assisted by the pastor, the Rev. Clark A. Selby. The masons attended in a body and took charge of the service at the grave. Pallbearers were Walter S. Pritchard, Wilbur Carr and Frank Zeiger, from Garner and Swan Eckberg, Dave Edwards and George Towne of Ames. A male quartet composed of J. R. Baggs, C. F. Merten, C. H. Schneider and R. G. Grobaty sang two numbers. Burial was in Concord cemetery.
