Charles Sheets

BRITT — Charles Sheets, 55, of Britt, died Friday (Nov. 14, 1986) at his home near Britt.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church here, with the Rev. Larry Vallery officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Britt, with military rites by the Crystal Lake American Legion.

He was born Jan. 27, 1931, at Mason City to Everett and Mary (Kloster) Sheets. He moved with his parents to a farm near Britt where he attended rural schools, graduating from Britt High School in 1949.

On Feb. 3, 1952, he was married to Carolyn Campbell at Corwith. He served with the U.S. Army for two years. He had farmed in Hancock County since his discharge from the Army.

He was the commander of James Rasmussen Post No. 49 of the Crystal Lake American Legion and had served on the county level in the American Legion. He had served on the Hancock County Fair Board for 15 years, and for 13 years served as board president. He was very active in 4-H as a leader, alumni and honorary member.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, serving on the church board and also as a Sunday school teacher. He served on the Britt Alumni Board, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service committee, and also served on the Farm Bureau Board.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Sunday at Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; two daughters, Mrs. David (Joyce) Charlson, Clarion, and Mrs. Dale (Esther) Winter, Charles City; two sons, Leon of Ionia, and Calvin of Woodward; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Marilyn) Knappen, Decatur, Ill., and Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Holt, Parker, Colo.; three brothers, Curtis of Iowa City; Ron of Santa Ana, Calif.; Elton of Clarence; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
