Emmett Sheets
BRITT - Emmett L. Sheets, 85, of Britt, died Friday (Jan. 29, 1982) at a Britt hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church, Britt, with the Rev. J. Larry Vallery officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Graveside military rites will be performed by the Britt American Legion Post 315. Carter Ewing Funeral Home, Britt, is in charge.
Mr. Sheets was born in Britt and attended schools there. He served in the U.S. Army in World War I. On Jan. 20, 1920, he married Bess Fannin in Mason City. They farmed in Hutchens where he also operated a filling station.
During World War II, he was assistant manager of the Britt Hemp Plant. He was also manager of Mullins Hybrid Seed Corn Company, Britt. He was later employed at the Co-op station in Britt. He retired in 1964.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Rotary Club, World War I Veterans and a member and past master of Darius Masonic Lodge 431. He also served on the Hancock County Draft Board.
He is survived by his wife, Bess, Britt; three daughters, Mrs. William (Jean) Spangler, Crown Point, Ind.; Mrs. Floyd (Margery) Cary, Fullerton, Calif., and Mrs. Robert (Charlot) Floren, Pullman, Wash.; a son, Robert, White Hall, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and a brother, Ernest, Des Moines.
