ABSTRACTED OBITUARY from Forest City Summit, Oct. 15, 1959

Fred Saathoff, 67, died Saturday at Woden.

He moved to the Woden community in 1910 with his parents. He was married to Martha Baack, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baack in 1915. He farmed, had a draying business and was with the Champlin Oil co. in Woden.

Survivors are his wife,, 3 daughters, Mrs. Irving (Helen) Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Clayton (Marcella) Wagner of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mrs. Jack (Elaine) Helfman of Washington D.C., 2 sons, ...... Mrs. Roy Jackson of Palmer and Mrs. Herman Dunteman of Amiret, Mn., 6 grandchildren.

Preceded by 2 sons, who died in infancy, a brother, Walter.

Services at St. John's Lutheran church and burial in Bingham township cemetery at Woden.

Fred Saathoff Succumbs to Heart Attack

Woden - Fred G. Saathoff, 67, died Saturday of a heart attack at the Woden Elevator where he was employed. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church here, preceded by a prayer service at 1 p.m. at the Martin Smith home. The Rev. John H. Jacklin will officiate and burial will be in Bingham Township Cemetery. Boughton Funeral Home, Britt, is in charge.

The son of Gerd and Anna Rankin Saathoff, he was born in Manson, Dec. 28, 1891. He was married to Martha Baach, Feb. 24, 1915. After farming a few years they moved to Woden where he operated a dray line and later was the driver of a gas service wagon. He went into semi-retirement following a heart attack six years ago.

Survivors are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Irvin (Helen) Smith, Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. Clifton (Marcella) Wagner, Florida, and Mrs. Jack (Elaine) Halfman, California; two sisters, Mrs. Herman Dunteman, Amiret, Minn., and Mrs. Roy Jackson, Palmer, Iowa. He was preceded in death by two infant sons.
