L. W. Fox, well known here, dies

Funeral services for Lyal W. Fox, well known retired farmer and life long resident of the Britt area were held Tuesday at the Britt Methodist Church at 2 p.m.

The Rev. Warren S. Paige, church pastor officiated and interment was made in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Britt, The Grupe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lyal Walter Fox, was born the son of Walter C. and Christine Larson Fox on September 24, 1896 near Britt. On March 6, 1918 he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Sillman, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Sillman northwest of Britt. To this union were born four daughters and two sons. One son Earl died in 1938. Mr. Fox farmed in Orthel Township until failing health forced his retirement in 1960.

During his life he had been active in many different farm and church organizations and had served on various official boards. He was a member of the Britt Methodist Church.

Mr. Fox had been a resident of the Westview Rest Home for the past three years. Friday morning he entered the Britt hospital, where he quietly slept away the same day. He had attained the age of 70 years and 10 days.

He is survived by four daughters, Imogene, Mrs. Richard Schubert of Britt; Doris, Mrs. Earl Schulz of Britt; Marjorie, Mrs. Robert Snyder of Truro, Iowa; Carol, Mrs. Harlan Nuehring of Klemme; one son, John Fox of Willard, Wisconsin. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two sisters, Glyde, Mrs. Gerald Higdon of Newton; Minnie, Mrs. Jim Higdon of Britt and one brother, Jerry Fox of Britt and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Anna, who died on Dec. 7, 1963, one son and one granddaughter.

Lyal W. Fox

Britt - Lyal W. Fox, 70, died Friday at Memorial Hospital.

He had been a resident of the Westview Retirement and Nursing Home for three years.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Warren Paige officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

The Grupe Funeral Home is in charge.

He was born Sept. 24, 1896, at Britt, a son of Walter and Christine Fox. He attended rural schools in Orthel Township. He was married March 6, 1918, to Anna M. Sillman. They had farmed northwest of Britt. She preceded Mr. Fox in death in 1963.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Ima Jean) Schubert, Britt; Mrs. Earl (Doris) Schultz, Britt; Mrs. Robert (Marjorie) Snyder, Truro, and Mrs. Harlan (Carol) Nuehring, Klemme; a son, John, Willard, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Gerald Higdon, Newton, and Mrs. Jim Higdon, Britt; a brother, Jerry, Britt; 21 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
