N. Iowan among lightning victims

Harold G. Eden, 32, Crystal Lake farmer, was one of four Iowans killed by lightning in Friday's storms.

Eden was operating a tractor and disk in the Wilbur Crone farm, two miles southeast of Woden, when lightning struck him at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The bolt struck him in the head and came out the at knee, according to medical reports.

He was thrown from the tractor and the disk passed over his body.

Born Oct. 31, 1929, at Woden, he was the son of George and Jennie Bruns Eden. He attended Crystal Lake School and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was married at Nashua June 5, 1960, to Darlene Brown of Crystal Lake. They had farmed near Titonka and Crystal Lake.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Michelle May, 10 months; his mother, Mrs. Jennie Eden, Woden; two brothers, Calvin and Glenn, both of Woden; three sisters, Nettie, Woden; Dolores and Mrs. Curtis (Della) Post, both of Minneapolis.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Crystal Lake Methodist Church, preceded by a prayer service at the family home. The Rev. Walter Phelps will officiate. Boughton Funeral Home, Britt is in charge. Military rites will be conducted in the Evergreen Cemetery by the American Legion Posts of Crystal Lake and Woden.
