H. E. Bowker Rites Held at Crystal lake

Crystal Lake - Military rites for Harry E. Bowker, 49, were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church here with the Rev. Gerhard Hjelmaas, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Crystal Lake Cemetery.

Mr. Bowker died Friday night at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He had been ill since last November.

He was born Feb. 10, 1907, at Crystal Lake, the son of Leslie E. and Millie Gillstrap Bowker. After attending high school at Cherokee, he returned to Crystal Lake in 1926. He never married.

He entered service in the U. S. Army on May 18, 1942, and served with an anti aircraft artillery battery in the African campaign and in the European theater. He received his honorable discharge Nov. 1, 1945. He was a member of James Rasmusson post of the American Legion at Crystal Lake.

Survivors include four sisters. Mrs. Ada Clark, Cherokee; Mrs. Fred Holton, Waterloo, and Mrs. Roy Kohler and Mrs. John Wheat, both of Chicago, and three brothers, Frank, DeKlab, Ill,; Charles, Newark, Del., and Robert, Sac City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Boughton Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
