Olson Rites to Be Friday
Garner - Funeral services for Herman Albert Olson, 67, retired Garner letter carrier and World War I veteran, will be held at the First Methodist Church in Garner at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Trevor Baskerville in charge. Burial will be in the Concord Township Cemetery at Garner with the Bohn Funeral Home in charge. Olson died at his home here Tuesday afternoon following a lingering illness.
Herman Albert Olson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Olson, was born at Monroe Center, Ill., on July 5, 1887. Olson became a rural letter carrier in Garner in 1919 shortly after returning from service in World War I and served continuously until his retirement on Jan. 1, 1955. He was a charter member of the Gifford Olson Post of the American Legion, who will accord military honors. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Garner and served many years on the official board of the church.
He is survived by his wife, Elvina; two daughters, Mrs. Richard W. (Harriett) Albers of Barry, Ill.; and Mrs. Harold W. (Helen) Penstone of Cambridge, Ill.; one brother, Louie Olson, Garner, and a half brother, Elias Heller, Fairdale, Ill. There are three grandchildren.
