Funeral Monday at Garner for Hancock Farmer
Garner - Funeral services for Marius Nielsen, 66, were held at the Bohn Funeral Home in Garner Monday afternoon with the Rev. M. J. Klaus, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in charge. Interment in the Concord Township cemetery. He died suddenly while at work on the Charles Merten farm east of Garner about 11 a.m., Saturday, with death apparently caused by a heart attack.
Marius Nielsen, son of Sam and Andrea Nielsen, was born Aug. 5, 1887, at Aarhus, Denmark, and came to America when he was 25 years old. On Nov. 15, 1936, he was united in marriage with Delores Bennett in Galena, Ill.
The couple came to Garner 27 years ago and for the past 18 years Mr. Nielsen had been employed by the State Highway Commission as a maintenance man. He was a veteran of World War I and served overseas. He was a member of the Gifford Olson post of the American legion and the Garner VFW.
Survivors are his wife, Delores, four children, Lee, Andrea, Donald and Nancy, all at home; three brothers and two sisters.
