Farmer Dies Near Garner

Garner - Funeral services for John Thomas Gatchel, 73, prominent Concord township farmer, will be held at the Methodist church in Garner on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. S. Willard Cunningham officiating. The body will lie in state at the Bohn funeral home prior to the service and a service will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in the Concord township cemetery. Mr. Gatchel died at his home east of Garner Wednesday following a lingering illness.

John Thomas Gatchel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Gatchel, was born near Pontiac, Ill., on March 26, 1878, and was educated in the rural schools of that community and later attended Valparaiso university, Valparaiso, Ind. He grew to manhood in the Pontiac community and was married to Ivy Thorne. To this union 6 children were born.

In 1915 the family moved to a farm south of Britt and resided in the Britt community for 18 years when they moved to the Garner community where they lived on farms for the past 18 years. Mr. Gatchel was active on the farm until his recent illness and took a keen interest in good farming practices and community activity. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs and the Garner Methodist church.

Survivors are his wife 3 sons and 3 daughters, Mrs. Ed Kumsher of Kanawha; Mrs. Albert Claude of Garner; J. C. Gatchel, Clarence S. Gatchel and James A. Gatchel and Emma Lou Gatchel, all of Garner.
