Corwith - Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 for J. W. Patterson, the Rev. O. E. Schull in charge. Interment was made in the Corwith cemetery.
William John Patterson was born October 20, 1864, at Glasgow, Beaver county, Pa. He died at the University hospital in Iowa City on Oct. 1, 1934, after an illness of two months. At the age of 16 he moved with his parents to Hoopston, Ill., where he lived until about forty years ago when he came to Hancock county, Iowa.
May 29, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Clare Heimbrodt and they have made their home in the vicinity of Corwith ever since, living on farms, with the exception of four years, 1908-1912, when they lived in town, until 1917, when they moved to town permanently.
Mr. Patterson became a member of the Methodist church some thirty years ago. He was very active in lodge work, being a member of the I.O.O.F. and the M.W.A.
Mr. Patterson had always been active and healthy. He was never sick until a few weeks ago when he began failing very rapidly. He was known by all as "John", being a friend to all yet standing for the highest ideals and the thing of the best. He was a kind father to his family and enjoyed his home and his neighbors and his friends.
He leaves to mourn his passage his wife, Clara Patterson of Corwith, a daughter, Evelyn and her husband, Cecil Bogard, of Nora Springs, and his little grandson, Jimmie, one sister, Jennie Steffani of Hoopston, Ill., two brothers, M. J. of Beaver, Pa., and Cairns, of Indianapolis, Ind., and a niece, Mrs. Kathern Mosiman of Belmond, who made her home with the Pattersons for some time, besides other relatives and a host of friends.
