AMES — Marie Frevert, 109, of Ames, Iowa, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames, of which she had been a longtime resident.
Marie was born November 22, 1903, in Denison, Iowa, to the Reverend Albert and Lydia (Schwieger) Gauger. She graduated from Garner High School, then went on to attend Morningside College, Iowa State Teachers College and the University of Colorado. Marie taught country school in Klemme and town school in Hampton and Odebolt.
On September 12, 1935, Marie was united in marriage to Warren Frevert at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Warren and Marie farmed near Rudd, Iowa, and she enjoyed being a housewife, gardening and caring for her family.
Marie is survived by her sons, Bill (Marcie) Frevert of Emmetsburg and Jim (Clare) Frevert of Nevada; her daughter, Alice Srp of Camanche; her brother, CJ Gauger of Ames; her grandchildren, Larry (Suzie) Frevert of Ashville, N.C., Anne (David) Cable of Rockford, Ill., Daniel (Liz) Srp of Camanche, Julia (Chris)Brush of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Tom Srp of LeClaire, and Jody (Dan) Zarnowiec, Anne (Greg) Sween, Kristen (Gerard) Ruiz and Kortney (Sheri) Freeman, all of Emmetsburg; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1994; and three brothers, William, Harlan and Stanley Gauger.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Rudd, Iowa. A time of luncheon and fellowship will follow at the Rudd United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rudd United Methodist Church in loving memory of Marie.
Bacon Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Nevada are handling arrangements.
