Funeral rites are held for Herman E. Sweers

Funeral services for Herman E. Sweers, 83, retired Britt area farmer were held Saturday afternoon, at 2 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Britt. Rev. Ronald Lammers, church pastor, officiated and burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Grupe Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Swears died early Thursday morning at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Jan. 6. He attained the age of 83 years, 10 months and 20 days.

Herman E. Sweers was born on Feb. 18, 1888 at Larrelt, Germany, the son of Jacob and Cornelia Weiland Sweers. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of two years. On Oct. 20, 1915 he was united in marriage with Ada Pannkuk at Titonka, Iowa. The couple farmed southwest of Britt until they retired to their present home in Britt in 1948. He was a member of the Britt Christian Reformed Church.

He is survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. John (Hannah) Brouwer of Britt and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and six brothers.

Six nephews of Mr. Sweers served as casket bearers, they were; Herman Sweers, Ben Sweers, Elmer Sweers,, Bill Leerar, Alvin Leerar and Jake Brouwer. Marlene Janes was the organist and the vocal duet was John Miller and Shirley Miller. Pete Baker and Anno Abbas were the church ushers.
