Carl Franzen dies suddenly Jan. 20th
Carl E. Franzen, Klemme, died quite suddenly Friday night, January 20th, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Britt. Formerly of Garner, he had been the town marshal of Klemme for the last four years.
Carl had spent eleven years with the United States Army before coming to Garner.
He had brought his wife to the doctor, and Mrs. Franzen told the doctor should give him a check up since Carl was experiencing pains in the chest. The doctor thought it best that he go to the hospital for further examination and checks, and he died quite suddenly last Friday night about 7:30 o'clock.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 23, from the Klemme Methodist Church, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. J. E. Albertson officiating. The firing squad and honor guard of American Legion post No. 256 and the V.F.W. post No. 5515. assisted with the military services.
Burial was made in the Ell Township Cemetery at Klemme, with the Bohn Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
The Rev. Albertson used as his text -John 10:10, and as his meditation. "Life at It's Fullest."
Comfort in music was supplied by the quartet composed of Gwen Butler, Patti Buhl, Steve Brunes and Glenn Schulz. The hymns used were; "Rock of Ages," and, "Wonderful Words of Life." Mrs. Muriel Schulz was the organist.
The pallbearers were: Lloyd Zwald, Quentin Stille, Roger Ridder, Jack Richter, Gordon Sawtelle and Ernest A. Gerardi.
Carl had reached the attained age of 51 years, three months and 24 days, at the time of his death. He was born at Wesley, September 26, 1915, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Franzen.
He is survived by his wife, Sonja; two daughters, Carolyn and Mona; a sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Helen) Zwald, Garner; two step brothers, Marlin Torgerson and Jerry Torgerson, Mason City; also two step sisters: Mrs. A. C. Addlaid Thompson, Aitkin, Minn., and Mrs. Ed Kerma Melton, Chicago, Illinois.
